Lazy Queer Sunday

On Sunday, November 22, Boekwinkel Savannah Bay in Utrecht is organizing another special edition of our Lazy Queer Sunday. To conclude Trans Awareness Week, we celebrate the visibility and strength of trans people in our own unique way.

Our special guest is writer, activist, and community builder Alejandra Ortiz, who will be presenting her new novel Once Upon a Time There Were Dolls. In this book, three friends go on a road trip to Paris. Along the way, they reminisce about their friendship in both beautiful and difficult times, and look back at everything that has changed in their lives. It is a story about friendship, grief, and the power of community. With a keen sense of drama and humor, Ortiz shows that the lives of trans women do not consist solely of struggle, but also of love, joy, mutual connection, and everyday adventures.

During this Lazy Queer Sunday, we will sit down with Alejandra Ortiz to talk about her new book, the importance of visibility, chosen family, friendship, love, and resilience.  The program consists of an interview, the book presentation, and a book signing. This event will be mostly held in English, the book is published in Dutch. Naturally, there will also be plenty of opportunity to meet, catch up, and enjoy a relaxed queer Sunday afternoon together.

Sign up for free for the Lazy Queer Sunday on November 22nd.

Drop by, meet Alejandra Ortiz, and join us in celebration to wrap up Trans Awareness Week. Celebrate the stories and voices that deserve to be seen and heard. Everyone is welcome!

Once upon a time there were Dolls - Alejandra Ortiz

In *Once upon a Time There Were Dolls*, three friends take a road trip to Paris. Their lives look completely different from the last time they were there together. They revisit memories—at once bitter and tender—of a life they once shared, a life that, not so long ago, was irrevocably altered.

With a keen sense of drama, Alejandra Ortiz writes about friendship, desire, and sorrow. The life of a “doll” is no bed of roses; yet, no matter what happens or how bleak things may seem, there is always a close-knit community to fall back on.
