On April 10th, we host an evening of storytelling and collaging. You are invited to bring in a story – personal or a section from a book, song, film etc. We will read aloud and afterwards make collages from our stories.

What is a queer story? Genre-bending? Defying categorization? A story with queer characters? Instead, we might ask, what does a queer story do?

Queer storytelling can disrupt our known patterns of thinking and being together and help us imagine alternative beats of life – we can re-narrate stories told about us without us.

For many minority communities, oral storytelling has born(e) histories that have only been available in fragments. For this evening, we invite you to bring in your fragment(s) – this can be a personal story or a small section from a book, a poem or song, lines from a movie, a speech, article, social media post, etc. Your fragment(s) can be silly, serious, nonsense, poetic, light, heavy and in any language. In the first part of the evening, we will share and listen to each other’s fragments. If you do not feel like reading aloud but still want to bring a story – no problem! Someone else will gladly read it for you.

In the second part, we will craft and collage our fragments together to tell stories “by way of other stories” in true Savannah Bay fashion.

We will provide materials for collaging and printing together with coffee, tea, and snacks. Please inform us of any allergens we should be aware of. Feel free to bring: your own collaging materials, food/snacks, knitting/crocheting/creative work.

We hope to create a space for our bodyminds’ varying needs, so please bring what you need to feel comfortable and let us know if we can do anything to better accommodate you. Are you interested in participating but unsure whether the event is accessible to you? Please feel free to e-mail us.
